These free matching printable valentine cards and candy boxes are sure to make your Valentine's Day sweet, or in this case "tweet." (The little bird on each card says "You're so tweet!") And whether you choose the tea cup or basket candy boxes, they're easy to make. And the kids valentine cards are a snap, too, especially if you have a paper cutter.

I've actually shown three variations of this candy favor box: a basket, a tea cup and a handle-less cup that can be used in conjunction with cellophane (that version is somewhat cut off in the photo above). The last option will be particularly useful if you would like to include fresh chocolates or other unwrapped treats. If you're going to go that route, I advise that you get small pleated cups to hold the candy. Target has them around Valentine's Day in bags for a dollar or so, so that's a great place to get them.
The templates are available in two color schemes: pink, and yellow and pink. Both have checked backgrounds and fancy swirls with flower and a cute bird. The photo tutorials below show the yellow version, but any of the candy boxes can be made with the pink template. There also is a template for making two different kids valentine card designs in the same color schemes as the boxes. There isn't a tutorial for those, but you simply cut around the square edges, either with a cutting surface and craft knife, cutting board or scissors. You also can use pinking sheers or decorative-edged craft scissors on them, if you want fancier edges.

The photo tutorials should be fairly self-explanatory, but here are a few things that might not be obvious:
Candy boxes and cards:
- Print the templates with the thickest paper your printer will allow.
- Make sure you have plenty of ink if you'll be printing a lot of the cards and/or candy boxes, so you'll get consistent ink coverage.
- I recommend using manicure scissors or another small scissor type to cut the body of the candy boxes because there are small curved areas.
- I used a glue stick to attach all the pieces. I usually use a repositionable glue stick but I found that the regular kind worked well for this -- you just have to work quickly.
- You'll need to print two of the template sheets to get two handles. It's not mandatory to use two handle pieces, but gluing them back-to-back will give the basket more strength.
- In step 6 for the basket: glue the two sides of the handle together and then, before they dry, curve them in an arch shape. That will keep the handle from gapping in between the layers when you attach it to the basket. Or, as stated above, you can also just use one handle and not two.
- Check the pattern of the handle against the side of the basket before you glue it (step 7). There's a right side and a wrong side, so if you want the checks in the pattern to line up correctly with the checks on the basket, make sure you have the handle turned the right way before you add the glue.
- I used the straight strip in the template to line the bottom of the basket and give it more stability. You can leave this step out if you want.
- To use the included straight strip for the handle, fold it and then cut it in half. Then, glue the two halves together, back-to-back, shaping the strip into an arch as you go. This will help it have a curved shape without buckling. Fold flaps of about 1/4" at both ends of the strip toward the center, and glue one of those flaps over the top of the cup and the other to the side to form the handle.
- I added small faux pearls to the flowers, which I think really kick the box up a notch. You can also use glitter glue, glitter and rhinestones to enhance the overall effect on either the basket or the tea cup.
These baskets are so adorable! I love the teacup! You have a wonderful fun blog.
